Beartooth Billings Clinic Foundation
About the Beartooth Billings Clinic Foundation
Purpose Statement: The Foundation delivers philanthropic support, fosters community awareness, and secures the financial future of Beartooth Billings Clinic.
The Foundation was formed in 1987 to re-purchase Beartooth Hospital and Health Center (named Carbon County Memorial Hospital at the time) from an interim out-of-state owner. Through broad community participation, $600,000 was raised for this purpose. At that point, this was the largest philanthropic undertaking in the history of Red Lodge. In 1993, the Foundation received 501 (c) (3) non-profit status and within a few years had an active board.
In 2007, the Foundation board and staff turned their full focus on launching a Capital Campaign to help finance a new hospital/clinic facility for Carbon County. Within three years, more than $3 million in private donations had been received, as well as $1 million in grants. On November 18, 2010, the new facility opened its doors and welcomed its first patients.
The Foundation’s next phase of growth is an Endowment Campaign. Taking the long view, an endowment is a permanent fund that stays in place perpetually, providing revenue for special projects, equipment, programs, and services in line with the organization’s mission.
The Kane Scholarship Fund aids those pursuing a career in a rural healthcare field. The Foundation Board unanimously agreed that these young adults shared achievements and goals consistent with the late Dr. and Mrs. Kane’s ideals. The Beartooth Billings Clinic Foundation has awarded over $95,000 in scholarships since 2006.
